With the arrival of Windows 8.1 the long awaited Kiosk Mode was introduced. It allows Windows 8.1 systems to run with a single application that can not be exited. This is of special interest to companies that are using touchscreens in their lobby, at tradeshows or other public locations.
Interactive portfolios
Photo Kiosk is the first app designed for Kiosk Mode. It offers multitouch browsing through photo and video collections and can be used to create digital product portfolios in a snap. It is designed to be used either in a horizontal setup allowing 360 degrees user interaction or in a vertical setup allowing multiple users standing next to each other to interact with the application. The app features built-in customization of colors, background and overlay images so it can be tailored to fit branding needs.
Content management is easily done by storing media files in local folders and pointing the app to the media root folder to use. By using the Windows 8 Skydrive integration content management can be done from a remote location.
Disrupting price
Worldwide distribution of the application is done through the Windows Store, which allows it be offered at a price that is far below the price of competitive software.
